About The Artist

Kit Vermillion is a multimedia sculptor and sound artist interested in exploring discussions of sonic dialogue through an embodied experience of the senses. In his work, physical presence, memory, audio, and smell, merge together to generate encounters both within and between  bodies. His practice aims to provide a space for healing through the act of deep listening; a method of listening which involves a re-calibration of both the mind and body within existing spaces in order to produce alternative ways of knowing and being. His practice is driven by his own emotional and bodily response to the aural senses. Forming dialogue through material gestures, repeated patterns, or rhythmic words that become a part of the creative process. Intuitively moving through sound to reveal something newly undiscovered about the self. In his work, dialogue with both the material and immaterial generates an awareness of everyday sounds. The very sounds which influence our psychological well being, respiration, digestion, and our relationship to place. He argues that everyday noise is compelling due to its resistance to expectations of musical theory, notation, or visual structure. His sensory sculptures expose a new reality where noise informs us about the health of our environment, our soundspace, and of the self. Through his raw audio recordings, noise exists as it is, in its most true and beautiful form, in endless conversation with the rest of the world. His audio compositions expose memories that, when pieced together with the senses, reveals to us a symphony of place.
